This weekend I ran my first half marathon in Cheltenham with property pals Gary Henly and Peter Rowan.
There are a number of key learnings that I will utilise from the experience for my property business and believe you can do so too.
- Your Wellbeing – To be at the top of your game in business, you need to be fit and healthy – your wellbeing is far greater competitive advantage than any technical knowledge you will acquire. After training I had more energy so therefore could be more productive in work areas
- Raising Money – Use the experience as an opportunity to raise money for a good cause and be aggressive with your fundraising. Raising funds is a key requirement along with sourcing for property professionals. We all ran for Worcester Whizzards and managed to raise 4,000 GBP. - Mirror those with experience for better performance – I wanted to be sub 2 hours so my strategy was to stay with the 2 hour pace maker for the journey and then move ahead of him as we entered the last quarter of the race – this enabled me to complete the race in one hour fifty four minutes
- Compound effect works – In July I could only run about 5km – yesterday I managed to run 22km – I achieved this by simply upping my distance each week
- Celebrate your successes – After the race I enjoyed a great day out in Cheltenham and quite a few beers with friends
- The journey never ends – The goal for 2017 is a full marathon – watch out for future blogs to see my progress but also how I plan to also source leads when running!
