Mega-posh mansion hidden away in heart of Plymouth to become luxury apartments

Pearn HouseA posh mansion tucked away in the heart of Plymouth is set to be turned into luxury flats – with private parking.

City planning officials have approved the redevelopment of the former St Luke’s hospice care centre off Eggbuckland Road into 10 two-bedroom apartments.

Drawings show each home will contain two large bedrooms, a bathroom, and an ‘open plan’ styled living, dining and kitchen area.

The plan, supported by Stackhouse Design LLP architects states, “The residential accommodation comprises ten two-bedroom apartments with eight situated within the main body of the house and two within the rear tenement”.

The 19th Century building was originally built by Edwin Alonzo Pearn, who opened the establishment as a nursing home in 1985.

Pearn House continued as residential care by Canvalescent Trust until 2003 when St. Luke’s Hospice then used the building for palliative care and out-patients.

The building has remained empty since July 2015 when St Luke’s Hospice vacated due to cost issues.

It had been on the market with an asking price of £450,000.

The apartments are set to be spread out on both levels of the Grade II listed building, with 5 on the ground floor and 5 on the first floor.

Your Property Developments (Pearn) Limited will construct the luxury apartments by using minimal redesign to the building, with as much done to preserve the existing features and staircases.

Each apartment will come equipped with a private parking space, as well as 17 other spaces which will provide adequate residential or visitor parking.
